What should I expect in a pelvic floor assessment?
First, we discuss what your primary concerns are and then we run through several options to assess your pelvic floor, you can choose whichever you are the most comfortable with
What are the options to assess pelvic floor?
Digital vaginal examination or an internal examination, where the therapist places a gloved finger(s) into your vagina to assess strength, internal tears, presence of prolapse.
You can do an external visual examination where nothing is inserted into the vagina, the therapist may need to separate labia, or ask you to separate your labia for a better look at what’s happening to the muscles around the entrance to the vagina.
Ultrasound on the abdomen and/or ultrasound on the perineal area to assess for pelvic floor muscle contraction
Or if you’re uncomfortable or not prepared to do a pelvic floor assessment we can just talk through it!
When should I see a Physiotherapist after having a baby?
Whether you had a vaginal delivery or a C-Section, we recommend seeing a physiotherapist at 6 weeks postpartum. However, if you have any concerns you're definitely welcome to come earlier!
What is the process for fitting a pessary?
A pessary is a silicone device that is inserted into the vagina that can reduce the symptoms of a prolapse. It is not a one-size fits all approach so it can take a few trials to find the pessary that is perfect for you. Alaga Therapy has a fitting kit, where we can try several and then you can pay for the one that is right for you. Alternatively, you can try several single-patient use pessaries which may accumulate costs.
Are fitting pessaries sterile?
ABSOLUTELY! They are thoroughly cleaned and then sterilised in the same way gynaecologists sterilise metal speculums and the same way dentists clean their tools.
Paediatrics
Do you only do clinic sessions?
We can also do home visits, school visits or park visits within 5km radius of the clinic in Moorebank.

Do you do casting?
I have the training to do serial casting for children! But at the moment, the clinic doesn't do casting.

Are parents allowed in the session?
Parent's are definitely encouraged to sit in, and join in! Home practice makes progress, not the 30-60 mins you spend with the physio.

Clinical Pilates
I'm pregnant/post-partum can I still do pilates?
YES! exercise is highly recommended during and after your pregnancy. We will just tailor the exercises to you!
Telehealth
Will I still benefit from Telehealth?
yes! it is different to traditional physiotherapy, but it will still give you a wealth of knowledge.

What is the process for Telehealth?
To give you the best care, I recommend sending through your videos/photos prior to the session, that way the therapist can properly analyse it and give you the best advice. Telehealth sessions will run via a secure link on Zoom, and you will receive the link via your email
